Frequently Asked Questions

Will there be km markers?

Yes; there will be km markers at every 1km for the South Island Half Marathon up to 20km.

Will toilets be around the Lake if needed.

Yes; there are permanent toilets situated at various spots around the course.  You may have to run across to them but there are toilets situated around the route as well as at the start.

Will there be a bag drop off that is secure?

Yes; we will have a bag drop off, this will be at Race HQ.

Is there a time limit for the run and walk of the Half Marathon?

Yes; both walkers and runners must have started the last lap by 12:10pm

What if I haven’t started the last lap by 12:10pm?

Your time will not be recorded and you will have been deemed to be a DNF.  Drink stations will be left around the course if you do continue the walk or run and prize giving may have started when you finish.  Our intention is to have everyone finished within 4 hours for the South Island Half Marathon Walk and 3 hours 30 minutes for the South Island Half Marathon Run.

Is there a prize giving?

Yes; there is a prize giving, with category placings for first, second and third.

Do I have to be present to receive my prize?

To receive prizes, both category and spot, competitors must be present.

What time is prize giving?

We anticipate prize giving to be at 1:30pm.

Is there food and coffee available?

Yes; The Lake House will be open before the event for coffees and snacks.  Plus, it will be open for lunches and fast food type meals for children and families.

What beverages are available after the event?

The Lake House is a fully licenced restaurant and can cater for all beverage requirements.

Can I wear iPod and/or other types of technology to listen to music during the run?

Our recommendation is that you don’t as you can’t take instructions from marshals during the event, and you may not hear vehicles when crossing the roads.

Are there any age restriction for the South Island Half Marathon and 1/6 Marathon

Yes; to do the South Island Half Marathon you must be 13-years of age on race day and the 1/6 Marathon you must be 10 years of age on race day.

Can I get a refund if I withdraw prior to the event start?

No; sorry there are no refunds but you can transfer your entry to another competitor for a fee of $20.00 before the Sunday before the event.

Should the event have to be cancelled due to force majure, there will be no refund of entry fee.

Is there drink stations on the run?

Yes; every 3.5km.

Can I take a pram?

No; the run isn't suitable for prams, as there is a lake overflows and in places it is narrow and not suitable for runners trying to pass.  Please do not turn up with a pram and expect to do the event, as you will not be able to take it.

Are there finishers medals?

Yes; medals will be for all Finishers.  You will be able to download a certificate and add your name and time to it as well.
